First Disturbing Poem of the New Year

She’s fallen

into the abyss

spelunking a soul

desperately searching

for some kind of

Light

to hang onto

in a cold, destitute world

during the waning moon.

Incendiary devastation

testimony of ruin

of a once-thriving Metropolis

in her

lonely

cavernous heart.

A frigid breeze

obliviously sends

Falling Angels

faster

to plummet.

Wrathful lips

speak of destiny,

while tears of

hydrochloric acid

trail

the long-forgotten

red granite and dolomite statues

erected

long ago.

Darkest

before the dawn

and Winter in her

eyes,

memories fade

as the persistant Pelican plucks

stars

from the unrelenting sky.

Sheen

from skulls’ crania

adorn her

darkness

and bring her comfort.

Some reminders of

Death

have brought

long-sought

Light

through some twisted fantasy

of

fate.

Alone

she stands.

Alone

as it’s always been.

Alone

as it forever shall be.

DECAY
